Campaign 1928

Herbert Hoover ran against Al Smith in the 1928 U.S. presidential election.  Pencils topped with their likenesses, and others with broom-related slogans, were part of the campaigns —

The candidates battled head to head, but Hoover’s ultimately won.

Do the heads function as erasers? Any idea which pencil company made them?

I own these, the heads are plastic. Probably made by Eberhard Faber as evidenced by this very similar non-political pencil: https://gramhir.com/media/2403398561578175440

    • They do look a lot like old, hardened red erasers, and they have about the right weight, too. They would probably erase just about as well, maybe even leaving an indelible rusty smudge.
