Johann Faber
FABER is arguably the most famous name in pencils. Everyone knows the companies founded by A.W. Faber and Eberhard Faber. But there was another: Johann. (Not to be confused with yet another, J. H.) Johann Faber pencils were produced in Germany, the United States, and South America. Here is a selection of German ones from my collection:
For the pencil collectors these are amazing. Such a great lot. Thanks Fred to share all these beautiful pencils.

I have one Johann Faber from Czarist Russia. How can I add pictures from both sides here, Fred? Or I will add them to Facebook?

Great, I see a “Schwerin” pencils! Schwerin in a city (with lake) in the eastern part of Germany (former GDR). There is no reason to give them their own pencil, lol. 🙂 The “Pfeil”–> is very funny. Why to name a pencil “arrow”?

Great collection of Johann Faber pencils! Do you know if they also produced pencils in Spain? I purchased a bunch of Johan Faber pencils in Barcelona that are all labeled with “Dos Martillos 4601.” I also picked up some “Goldfabers” that are almost identical to the ones you posted but are stamped with A.W. Faber. Thanks for sharing your pencils!

I know that Johann Faber produced pencils in Germany for Spanish-speaking countries, because I have some that say Made in Germany in Spanish. They also made pencils in Argentina (see brandnamepencils).

Fred, sorry in the inappropriate manner, but I can’t figure out how to contact you.
I am an Italian collector and I would like to show you a French (?) Old pencil whose brand cannot be guessed. I can do it?
Thanks anyway, your site is a real resource.

Working on a mystery here. I came into possession of a Johann Faber “Accurate” mechanical clutch pencil. Its design is identical to A.W. Faber-Castell’s vintage Locklite 9400 series. Then is was pointed out that K & E (Keuffel & Esser) had produced a mechanical clutch pencil called the “Accurate” 4900 series that is identical to the Johann Faber.
Johann Faber was bought by Faber-Castell in the 1920s. K&E was still acquiring companies well into the 1970s. So…who originally made the clutch pencil? K&E, Johann Faber or A.W. Faber-Castell?
